Special Physical Properties of Ferritic Stainless Steel Compared to Austenitic Stainless Steel
Ferritic stainless steel has two particularly important physical properties:
1. The thermal conductivity is 1.5 times that of austenitic stainless steel and 1/2 that of carbon steel;
2. The coefficient of thermal expansion is low, roughly equivalent to carbon steel and 30% smaller than 304 stainless steel.
Comparison of strength between ferritic stainless steel and austenitic stainless steel:
1. The yield strength at room temperature is 20%~40% higher than that of austenitic stainless steel;
2. Low structural hardness;
3. At high temperatures, ferritic stainless steel has lower strength than austenitic stainless steel, but better oxidation resistance.
